The 2024 AIA Pittsburgh Design Awards were hosted at the Carnegie Music Hall, pairing the usual celebration of architectural talent with a Beaux Arts Ball in honor of the AIA’s 125th anniversary. This “unforgettable evening celebrating our rich history, vibrant community, and the innovative architectural work of our members” held an especially unforgettable moment for the Strada team: a big win!
The Bakery Square Courtyard Refresh received the Honor Award, which is awarded to projects that achieve excellence in project concept, detailing and execution of design concept, achievement of difficult or unusual program goals or constraints, originality of design, and sustainability. Our project activates Bakery Square by providing a variety of public spaces, food offerings, and a re-imagined outdoor “living room.” The architecture, paired with complimentary amenities and retail, creates an interconnected experience that encourages people to stay and play.
This project brings a new life and energy to the project site through a variety of public spaces aimed at activating the community. The integration of wellness and public art throughout the facility makes for an inviting, thoughtful, and rejuvenating environment.

The Strada team went from the winners’ circle to the dance floor at the Beaux Arts Ball. Strada Principal Dina Snider and Architect Eric Phillips hand-crafted their outfits to match the Strada Pittsburgh Studio’s home, the Alcoa Building, with other Strada team members providing a historic backdrop of 1950s fashion.
