fostering experimentation with flexible learning spaces

The Media Innovation Center is fast becoming a differentiator for WVU in its ability to empower collaboration, conversation, and experimentation between students, faculty, and members of the larger community. The 10,000 sq. ft. space is crafted to simultaneously support learning, making, and sharing activities.

A high degree of flexibility allows the physical space to change to meet the needs of its users, foster their ideas, and support the technologies and products they develop. The use of glass, metal, brick, wood, exposed mechanical systems, and state-of-the-art AV technology creates a high-tech industrial vibe that is inviting and comfortable for a wide range of users, from the most tech-savvy software engineers to the less digitally-inclined rural focus group. The Center enables this diverse collection of people to brainstorm ways of transforming the future of media, furthering its reach into uncharted territory.

Somebody was just coming through and I was showing him one of the rooms. We have two huddle spaces — breakaway idea rooms — and the person said, ‘If I just step in that room, I’m going to have a good idea.'
