CREATING AN ECOSYSTEM OF INNOVATION IN A NON-TRADITIONAL ACADEMIC BUILDING

Drexel University’s new home for the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) consolidates programs for Computer Science and Information Systems under one roof.

The College now occupies two floors at 3675 Market, which both feature a student-centric layout to help stimulate innovation and engagement, as well as state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, flexible seating to support active learning, collaborative meeting spaces, and large shared research labs.

The new home for CCI prioritizes student experience by creating gathering spaces for collaboration, and work pods for focused study. Access to daylight is maximized through clear circulation, wide corridors, an abundance of glazing, and bright finishes. An active learning classroom design features state-of-the-art technology consisting of virtual learning, assisted listening, and plug-and-play technology. A communicating stair was introduced to connect the two primary learning floors while simultaneously offering a gathering space for college assemblies and events Additional program features include a maker space, secure research areas, student lounges, and more than 100 faculty offices. The college’s presence in 3675 Market offers collocation with potential employers, the Science Center’s Venture Cafe, and Quorum. The new home for CCI is an invigorating and vibrant space that is fostering the next generation of tech leaders and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
