A bright and comforting shelter focused on innovation and animal care
Strada worked with WAHS to create a new modern 10,000 sq. ft. facility that would provide privacy and comfort for both animals and staff, while also being more inviting to potential adopters.
This facility averages 650 intakes per year, and has space for 60 dogs and 60 cats. WAHS seeks creative solutions every day for the animals they care for, and Strada was ready to provide our own creative solutions in the design process. Ventilation and acoustic comfort were prioritized, with cat colony rooms, condos, and adoption areas are visually and acoustically separated from dog kennels and adoption areas. Surgical and medical suites, offices, food preparation and storage areas, staff break rooms, and humane society police holding areas were carefully positioned to reduce possibilities of stress to animals and visitors. Animal spaces have windows to outdoor views, and the outdoor play space is connected to kennel spaces.
Durable finishes in bright and modern colors that echo the WAHS brand pull the space together, and a donor wall highlights the people who keep this shelter funded. They serve over 3,000 animals a year and boast a 95% live release rate.
