TRANSFORMING AN OLD GARAGE INTO A MODERN OFFICE SPACE

Craft Place required a sensitive and transformative design for restoration and renovation of this cast-in-place concrete structure which had been abandoned and decaying for 25 years. The former car dealership had internal car ramps and roof top parking making the existing building more like a parking garage than office space. The design vision was to create a commercially desirable contemporary building to attract and support modern research, high-tech or corporate office tenants.

The interior design for the project created a strong interplay between the robust raw structure of the existing building and the colorful, refined aesthetic of the new elements of the design.

Designed for five different research groups of the Magee-Women’s Hospital divided into quadrants for private team spaces. Central public spaces include the lobby, kitchen, communicating stair, and conference rooms that serve social hubs created to encourage collaboration between the research groups.
