The University engaged Strada to plan and design this 25,400-SF building that houses the University Police and Environmental Health and Safety Departments. A campus-wide security system that includes video monitoring and rapid emergency response is run from the state-of-the-art command center, with covered parking for various police vehicles.
In addition, classroom space allows for training and collaboration of the police force, while a new fitness center provides a space for weight training. The Public Safety Building provided the police department with a valuable visual presence and effective headquarters at the entrance to the Oakland campus. The building also serves as a county 911 emergency center.
